As generative AI tools begin to reshape our world, teachers must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to guide students in understanding and using these technologies responsibly. Our NSF-funded project, Empowering Future Teachers with Generative AI Education, aims to prepare pre-service teachers with a curriculum that highlights both the potential applications and the ethical limits of generative AI in K-12 education. This work emphasizes critical thinking, enabling future educators to make informed decisions about AI’s role in their classrooms. Through hands-on activities and case studies, pre-service teachers will learn to evaluate AI’s capabilities, limitations, and implications. By the project’s end, we’ll share open-source resources for other teacher education programs, fostering a network of educators ready to integrate AI thoughtfully and ethically into their teaching.
